De Vere Barony Castle Hotel – 3 Star This imposing historic hotel is located in 25 acres of tranquil gardens and woodland, a short drive from the border town of Peebles. Inside the historic façade, this hotel has all the facilities of a modern hotel. It has full leisure facilities with an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and mini-gym. Each of the 78 bedrooms are well equipped with hairdryer, satellite television, and tea/coffee making facilities. The main bar and restaurant have recently been refurbished and make a great relaxation area and in the summer there is additional seating outside on a terrace. There is a lift to all floors, however some single rooms are accessed via a flight of steps.
Day One: After being picked up at home, you join our luxury touring coach and travel northwards via the motorway network. Comfort stops are made en-route and you arrive in Peebles early evening. Day Two to Day Four: At leisure in Peebles with three included excursions. Day Five: After breakfast, you make your way southwards back to the Island to arrive early evening.
Included Excursions: After lunch you travel towards Edinburgh, stopping first at The Royal Yacht Britannia. Step on board and visit five of the magnificent decks, taking you through the State Apartments and crew's quarters and finishing in the engine room. We then have time in the historic city of Edinburgh before the evening performance of the Tattoo. An excursion to Abbotsford House the home of Sir Walter Scott, the 19th century novelist and poet author of The Waverley Novels, Ivanhoe, Lady of the Lake and others. Abbotsford is full of memorabilia and treasures connected with the history of Scotland including Montrose’s Sword, Rob Roy’s gun and a lock of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hair. Visitors will see Scott’s study where he wrote many of his best known novels together with a library containing over 9,000 rare volumes. A full day excursion to the Falkirk Wheel where you will have an inclusive boat trip on the Union Canal which includes a lift on the Falkirk Wheel, a fascinating day out for all.
