Mercure Telford Madeley Court Hotel, Telford – 4 Star An old 16th century manor house, the hotel is ideally located less than 5 minutes from the centre of Telford. All rooms are individual in character and feature en-suite bath and shower, flat screen TV with Freeview channels, hairdryer, trouser press, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities and free Wi-Fi. The hotel does not have a lift.
Day One: After a taxi pick up from home, you join our luxury touring coach and head northwards visiting the city of Gloucester for lunch. You then continue towards Shropshire with comfort stops made en route. We arrive in Telford late afternoon. Day Two to Day Four: At leisure in Telford with three included excursions. Telford is named after the famous engineer Thomas Telford; it is a comparatively new town with excellent shopping facilities. Day Five: After breakfast, you head southwards stopping at the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon for lunch and sightseeing. Arriving back on the Island early evening.
Included Excursions: A full day tour to the Ironbridge Gorge museums which consists of 10 magnificent museums spread along the banks of the River Severn. They pay tribute to what happened in this great valley almost three hundred years ago. As you wander through the Gorge you are constantly reminded of the role that this area played at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and why it is now a Unesco World Heritage Site. A day excursion first to the town of Shrewsbury famous for its black and white timber buildings. Renowned to be one of England’s most splendid heritage towns with over 600 listed buildings, it is a glorious location in the heart of Shropshire. Shrewsbury's most famous son, Charles Darwin was born here. After spending time in the town you make your way to Attingham Deer Park and Mansion, built for the 1st Lord Berwick in 1785, it was owned by the same family for more than 160 years. Highlights include the atmospheric dining room, set for an evening banquet, and the contrasting decoration of the delicate feminine Boudoir with the rich, opulent textiles of the masculine Octagon Room. Outside, the walled garden and many park walks offer further delights. The mansion is set in beautiful parkland designed to impress. An excursion to the Victorian Farm, Acton Scott, tucked away in the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It achieved national television fame as the setting for BBC 2’s ratings success story `Victorian Farm` which was accompanied by a best selling book. The estate went on to provide the film location for `Ben Fogle’s Escape in Time`.
