Best Western Stratton House Hotel – 3 Star The Best Western Stratton House Hotel is on the outskirts of Cirencester, within walking distance of the town centre. Once the home of a leading Cirencester wool merchant, this grand hotel has been extended in keeping with its magnificent 17th Century facade. That means there’s even more room for the character, charm and style that this hotel offers where you'll enjoy a warm welcome all year round. As a traditional Cotswolds hotel, they believe in good old-fashioned customer service. From the reception to the restaurant, bedrooms and bars, they will make sure you want for nothing. There is no lift but the hotel has some ground floor rooms.
Day One: After being picked up from your home, you join our luxury touring coach and head towards the Cotswolds via Westonbirt Arboretum which is a wonderful world of trees. There are 18,000 specimens from all over the world, planted from 1829 to the present day, producing 600 acres of beautifully landscaped Cotswold countryside. Visitors to Westonbirt can wander where they please along 17 miles of paths or simply sit in a leafy glade and admire some of the tallest, oldest and indeed the rarest trees and shrubs of their kind in the world. We arrive at your hotel late afternoon. Day Two to Day Four: At leisure with three included excursions. Day Five: After breakfast, you head south stopping at Kintbury where you join a two hour horse drawn barge tour. The beautifully decorated ‘Kennet Valley’ has no engine so is powered solely by the towing action of the horse. The tour passes through tranquil and picturesque countryside and through at least one lock. Arriving back on the Island early evening.
Included Excursions: A full day excursion around the Cotswolds visiting Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford and Stow- on- the-Wold. A full day tour, first to the city of Gloucester where you will have time to visit the cathedral or the Historic Gloucester Docks – comprising of fifteen Victorian warehouses which have been renovated and now house various museums, exhibitions and an antiques centre. Gloucester Docks was the filming location for the feature film Amazing Grace (2007) starring Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Gambon and Rufus Sewell. It was also the setting for 1970s TV series The Onedin Line. On your return journey, you will have some time in the town of Cirencester. A tour of the Wye valley visiting Ross-on-Wye, an historic market town with Tudor timbered houses overlooking the beautiful River Wye, with time for lunch and sightseeing before embarking on a River cruise from nearby Symonds Yat west. The river winds its way through the natural beauty of Symonds Yat gorge and village, dividing it into East and West. An entertaining commentary will inform and amuse. A cream tea will be served afterwards.
