Your drive-through Safari Adventure takes you unbelievably close to creatures you’ve only dreamed about. Monkey World

Set amongst 65 acres of Dorset woodland lies Monkey World, a sanctuary for over 240 primates, from 15 different species, including orang-utans and gorillas. Highclere Castle (home of ‘Downton Abbey’)

Stopping in Winchester with time for shopping, sightseeing and lunch before continuing to Highclere for our afternoon visit. Set in 1000 acres of parkland designed by Capability Brown, Highclere Castle is often described as the finest occupied Victorian mansion in England. However, its fame has increased in recent months by the screening of ‘Downton Abbey’ on ITV which was filmed on location at the castle. Highclere has a fascinating history including the connection with ancient Egypt, as the 5th Earl with Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. The castle now houses an exhibition to commemorate this event which includes rare antiquities. The state rooms are filled with wonderful wall coverings, furniture and art. There are also beautiful gardens to visit within walking distance of the castle.

Dorset Steam Fair

Due to demand we are now visiting this popular show on a weekday.
If you are looking for an excellent fun and action packed day out for all the family, you'll love the Great Dorset Steam Fair which offers a unique blend of nostalgia and entertainment. Traditionally this English fair is held at the village of Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford Forum in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside. The spectacle covers an enormous showground, at over 600 acres being one of Europe's largest outdoor event locations. The show has something for everyone, whatever your interests! There are approx. 200 working steam engines, 100 fairground organs and around 2000 other working exhibits. Experiencing the Old Time Steam Funfair is for many, the highlight of the show or explore the many craft and market stalls.
